Dhubri

Dhubri is the headquarter of Dhubri District, Assam, India.

It is an old small town on the bank of the river Brahmaputra and Gadadhar, a tributary of Brahmaputra. In the yesteryears Dhubri was an important commercial centre particularly of jute. Partition of the country in 1947 changed all that. Now Dhubri has become the main route for the migration of Bangladeshis to India.This place is also famous for Gurdwara Dhubri Sahib in memory of visit of First Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. And later it was followed by visit of Ninth guru , Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib.

Dhubri had a population of 63,965. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Dhubri has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79% and, female literacy is 68%. In Dhubri, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
